SALT LAKE CITY – Westminster Men's basketball played the first of two games against Johnson & Wales-Denver at the Behnken Field House. The Griffins exerted their dominance early in their 80-58 point win over the Wildcats, allowing the fifth lowest points against.
After giving up the first basket of the game to the Wildcats, the Griffins went on a 16 to two point run. The Griffins led by as many as 19 points and only allowed the lead to slip below 10 points twice. The Griffins finished, 35-21, leading by 14.
The Griffins maintained their lead between 15 and 20 points throughout the majority of the second half. With 4:59 left in the game,
Dayon Goodman scored eight points, of eleven consecutive team points, leading the Griffins to a 25 point lead, their largest lead of the game.
The Griffins shot 41.8 percent from the field, 38.9 percent from the 3-point arc, and 77.3 percent from the free throw line. Goodman had four assists, three blocked shots and a career high of 34 points. Quincy Bair scored 13 points and
Jarred Laws and
Tanner Newbold each scored eight points.
The Griffins play Johnson & Wales tomorrow at 3:00 p.m. at the Behnken Field House.
