Griffins dominate Wildcats in home opener

Griffins defeat Johnson & Wales-Denver 80-58

SALT LAKE CITY – Westminster Men's basketball played the first of two games against Johnson & Wales-Denver at the Behnken Field House.  The Griffins exerted their dominance early in their 80-58 point win over the Wildcats, allowing the fifth lowest points against.
 
After giving up the first basket of the game to the Wildcats, the Griffins went on a 16 to two point run.  The Griffins led by as many as 19 points and only allowed the lead to slip below 10 points twice.  The Griffins finished, 35-21, leading by 14.
 
The Griffins maintained their lead between 15 and 20 points throughout the majority of the second half.  With 4:59 left in the game, Dayon Goodman scored eight points, of eleven consecutive team points, leading the Griffins to a 25 point lead, their largest lead of the game.
 
The Griffins shot 41.8 percent from the field, 38.9 percent from the 3-point arc, and 77.3 percent from the free throw line.  Goodman had four assists, three blocked shots and a career high of 34 points.  Quincy Bair scored 13 points and Jarred Laws and Tanner Newbold each scored eight points.
 
The Griffins play Johnson & Wales tomorrow at 3:00 p.m. at the Behnken Field House.  Tickets can be purchased online in advance or at the door prior to the game.  In honor of Military Appreciation Weekend, free admission will be given to those with military ID.  The game will be available on live stats and a live feed.
