GUNNISON, Colo. -- Women's volleyball (7-15, 4-10 RMAC) played match four, of a five game road trip, against Western State Colorado (2-21, 1-13 RMAC). The Griffins defeated the Mountaineers in four sets, 3-1
The Griffins won the first two sets and set themselves up well to win the match. The first set was very tight with four lead changes and 13 tied scores. It wasn't until 14-13 that Westminster was able to maintain the lead and win the set 26-24. The second set was close early but the Griffins took the lead at 12-11 and held to win 25-21.
The home team won the third set 25-22 as the Griffins' attack sputtered with a .043 hitting percentage.
The Griffins got back on course in the third set with their best hitting of the match, .300 hitting percentage. Senior

Audrey Green both tallied eight kills as the Griffins won the set, 25-19, and the match, 3-1.
"The first two sets could have gone to Western very easily but our team defense was excellent," Head Coach
Al Givens said when asked about the match. "Our players were patient and showed good composure."
Several players had double digit digs for the second consecutive match. Senior
Megan Gallegos led the team with 23, sophomore
Amber Lamborn was close with 19, Green had 17, and sophomore
Hannah Stearman got 10.
Spere led offensively with a .475 hitting percentage and 23 kills. Green had a .245 hitting percentage and added 21 kills to her digs, for her sixth double-double of the season.
Taylor Gustafson had 48 assists.
The Griffins go to Grand Junction, Colorado, to play Colorado Mesa on Oct. 28 at 7 PM. The game will be broadcast on the RMAC Network and can be followed on live stats.
