GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. -- Westminster College volleyball (7-16, 4-11
RMAC) lost, 3-0, to a good in-form Colorado Mesa team (16-6, 10-4
RMAC). Mesa has won seven conference games by a 3-0 score line.
The Griffins start to the first set was good, keeping the score within one or two points and even tied at 6-6. The Mavericks began to hit their stride with a 12 to 5 point run to stretch the lead to 18-9. The Griffins scored four more points before losing the set, 25-13,.
The Griffins kept the second set close at 10-10 but a small four point run allowed the Mavericks to jump ahead enough to get away and win the set, 25-17,. The third set was played out similarly to the second set when a six point run put the home team in the lead 16-10 to eventually win the set, 25-18, and the match, 3-0.
Freshman
Audrey Green had 9 kills and a .318 hitting percentage, junior
Whitney Wakefield returned to form with seven kills and a .385 hitting percentage and senior
Amara Spere contributed nine kills. Senior
Megan Gallegos had twelve digs and senior
Taylor Gustafson had 28 assists.
The Griffins return home to
Behnken Field House for the final three matches of the 2017 season. The team plays New Mexico Highlands on Friday,
November 3, at 6 PM, CSU-Pueblo on Saturday, November 4, at 4 PM and Fort Lewis on
Monday, November 6, at 6 PM.
