SALT LAKE CITY – The Westminster women's volleyball team couldn't snap its current losing streak as they fell in three sets to Dixie State on Wednesday night in the Behnken Field House.

Westminster (2-11) dropped the match by scores of 15-25, 24-26, 16-25 to suffer a seventh straight loss.

It was a slow first set for the Griffins as they managed just nine kills to the 13 from Dixie State (8-4). The visitors hit .355 in the set and recorded a pair of service aces.

The second set was tight throughout and featured eight ties and two lead changes. The final tie came at 24-24 before Dixie got consecutive kills from Taylor Duryea to take the 2-0 lead. The Griffins had 18 kills in the frame, including eight from
Amara Spere and six from
Savannah Ipsen.

Dixie used a 7-1 run in the third set to turn an 8-8 tie into a 15-9 lead. The forced the Griffins into 11 hitting errors in the set while also securing 11 kills to earn the sweep.

Westminster finished the night with 38 kills and hitting .102. They allowed Dixie to tally 41 kills and .278 hitting. The Trailblazers also scored a 6-0 advantage in service aces and finished with a 9-5 lead in blocks. The Griffins finished with 53 kills.

Spere would lead the way for the home side with a season-high 16 kills. She hit .235 on the night and added six digs and two blocks. Ipsen finished with eight kills and
Amber Lamborn added six.

Hannah Stearman set a career high with 15 kills in her first career start at libero.
Taylor Gustafson distributed 25 assists to move into third-place all-time at Westminster in that category.

Duryea led the Trailblazers with eight kills and she added seven digs and two aces.

The Griffins will now head to the road for a pair of Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference matches this weekend. Their next match is on Friday against Chadron State at 6 p.m.
