SALT LAKE CITY – The Westminster men's soccer team fell to Colorado Mesa, 3-2, in a back-and-forth affair at Dumke Field on Friday afternoon.

The rainy conditions limited the offensive chances for either team in the opening half of play as both teams had just two shots in the half. The Griffins bork through early in the second half when
Cristian Alfaro took advantage of a stoppage of play to score his second goal of the season and give Westminster (1-5, 0-3 RMAC) a 1-0 lead in the 46th minute.

Colorado Mesa (3-1-3, 2-0-1) wasted no time in responding as the visitors used a goal from Roy Abergil in the 51st minute to level the contest. Abergil would add a second goal in the 57th minute when he converted a penalty kick.

The Griffins would pull even at 2-2 in the 66th minute as
Connor Thompson scored on a penalty kick for his first goal of the season.

The game-winner game in the 76th minute as Will Mercier scored from inside the box following a cross by Moshe Perez.

The Mavericks finished the game with a 9-5 edge in total shots and they put five of those attempts on goal to just two from the Griffins. CMU took five corners to one from the home side and the two teams combined for 22 fouls.

Max Medley made two saves in goal for the Griffins.
