ANCHORAGE, Alaska – The Westminster women's volleyball team was swept by Stanislaus State in their second match at the SpringHill Suites Invitational on Friday morning.
Westminster (0-2) fell 25-23, 25-13, 25-22 in the first of two matches on the day.
The Griffins had a strong opening set with 13 kills and no hitting errors to finish hitting .361. The struggled to generate much offense in the next two sets and they finished the match with 30 kills and .139 hitting.
Stanislaus State (1-0) tallied 52 kills with .289 hitting to earn the win. They had a 58-41 edge in digs and a 3-0 lead in service aces.
Amara Spere led the Griffins with nine kills.
Desiree Wickwar added six kills and two blocks while
Katie Allen went for five kills and three blocks.
Megan Gallegos finished with 13 digs to move within six of becoming the eighth player in team history with 800 career digs.
Taylor Massengale led Stan State with 16 kills and .480 hitting. Blair Ehrlich added 11 kills and 19 digs.
The Griffins will return to action Friday evening at 6:30 p.m. MT when they face No. 19 Arkansas Fort Smith.
