GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The Westminster women's volleyball team was swept in three sets by Colorado Mesa on Saturday night in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action at Brownson Arena.
Westminster (2-8, 0-2 RMAC) drops a fourth straight match with the 25-11, 25-16, 25-23 loss.
Colorado Mesa (8-2, 2-0) came out strong early as they hit .500 with 16 kills in the opening set. They held the visiting Griffins to just six kills and .080 hitting. That controlling play continued in the second set where Westminster allowed 14 kills to the Mavericks with just six on their side.
The Griffins would sow some fight in the third set as they rallied from a 20-13 deficit to even the frame at 23-23. CMU would complete the sweep by scoring the ensuing two points as the ome side had a 13-12 edge in kills in the set.
Westminster had just 24 kills in the match and finished hitting .030. They allowed CMU record 43 kills and hit .204 on the night. The Mavericks also posted eight service aces to just one from the Griffins.
Aubrey Louder paced the Griffins with a career high seven kills and .467 hitting.
Savannah Ipsen added four kills and 12 digs with
Whitney Wakefield also getting four kills.
Gabriela Dias led the Mavericks with 15 kills and .542 hitting. Taylor Woods had 14 digs in the win.
The Griffins will now return home for three straight matches. The first of that span comes on Friday when they host Colorado Christian at 7 p.m. in the Behnken Field House. Tickets for all Westminster home games are available at
