GUNNISON, Colo. – The Westminster women's volleyball team opened Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play with a 3-0 loss at Western State Colorado on Friday night at Paul Wright Gym.
Westminster (2-7, 0-1 RMAC) had a tough night offensively and fell by scores of 20-25, 15-25, 19-25.
The Griffins managed just 22 kills in the match and finished hitting negative-.021. They opened the night with 12 kills and .156 hitting in the first set before posting just 10 kills in the net two sets combined and putting up a negative percentage in each.
While holding the Griffins down, Western State (5-5, 1-1) got 41 kills on their attack and hit .316 in the match. WSCU had a 45-44 advantage in digs and went 6-5 in service aces.
Amara Spere would finish with eight kills for the Griffins.
Savannah Ipsen and Sydney Simmons had five kills apiece.
Amber Lamborn had two of the team's aces and
Taylor Gustafson contributed 18 assists.
Megan Gallegos tallied 11 digs in defeat.
Molly Hothan led three Mountaineers in double figures with 13 kills and she hit .750 for the night.
