SALT LAKE CITY – The Westminster men's soccer team opened the exhibition season with a 2-0 loss at home to The Master's on Thursday evening at Dumke Field.
The visiting Mustangs got on the board early when Luis Garcia-Sosa took a feed from Humphrey Moahow and put his shot inside the far post for the 1-0 lead in the fourth minute.
The lead would extend to 2-0 in the 14th minute when Mahowa intercepted a ball from Westminster's keeper and chipped the ball into an empty net.
The Griffins would manage to get four shots during the game, but weren't able to get any on frame. They surrendered 12 shots to TMU with the Mustangs putting seven on goal. The visitors also had a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Christian Alfaro led the Griffins with two shots while
Andrew Clayton and
Jordan Jones got the team's other two chances.
Sean Lyne allowed the two goals and made three saves in defeat.
Max Medley and
Sean Speirs had one stop apiece.
