SALT LAKE CITY – The Westminster men's soccer team impressed in its second exhibition game of the season as they came away with a 5-1 win over former Frontier Conference rival Carroll on Sunday afternoon at Dumke Field.
Westminster scored four times in the second half to turn a 1-1 halftime tie into an easy victory. They had a 13-7 edge in shots during the game and were able to put 10 of those chances on goal. Carroll (2-2) finished with just three shots on frame.
Matthew Warne scored the Griffins' opening goal when he found a loose ball in the box and pushed it home. The ball was played into the area on a free kick by
Christian Alfaro.
After Carroll found an equalizer in the 30th minute,
Connor Thompson tallied the eventual game-winner when he finished a cross by
Jonnathan Rodriguez from just inside the penalty area.
Hunter Stutz found the end or a corner kick service by
Andrew Clayton in the 59th minute that made it 3-1. The lead reached 4-1 on a
Hunter Kone penalty kick and then
Blaze Nelson capped the day with a goal from 40-yards away in the 82nd minute.
Max Medley secured the win on goal with a pair of saves in his 66 minutes.
Sean Speirs played the final 24 minutes in goal for the Griffins.
