SALT LAKE CITY – The Westminster women's soccer team opened the exhibition season with a 1-1 draw against Weber State on Wednesday evening at Dumke Field.
Â
Despite a 12-3 edge in shots attempts, Westminster couldn't hold off the visitors in a 90-minute contest. The Griffins would take the lead in the 61st minute when
Madison Roemer headed in a corner kick sent in by
Alicia May.
Â
It appeared that lead would hold as the clock went to the 90th minute. That is when Madison Garlock found a through-ball from Morgan Quarnberg and slid it past a charging Westminster keeper. The ball had just enough to sneak into the goal before a Griffin defender could clear the attempt and Weber drew even with 12 seconds to play.
Â
The Griffins were only able to get three of those 12 shots on frame and they only maintained a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks. Roemer led the team with four shots and two on goal, including the team's lone tally.
Â
Westminster will play its final exhibition game of the year on August 24 when they host Salt Lake Community College. That game will begin at 5 p.m. from Dumke Field and tickets are available at
