Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Griffins Surrender Late Goal in 1-1 Draw

SALT LAKE CITY – The Westminster women's soccer team opened the exhibition season with a 1-1 draw against Weber State on Wednesday evening at Dumke Field.

Despite a 12-3 edge in shots attempts, Westminster couldn't hold off the visitors in a 90-minute contest. The Griffins would take the lead in the 61st minute when Madison Roemer headed in a corner kick sent in by Alicia May.

It appeared that lead would hold as the clock went to the 90th minute. That is when Madison Garlock found a through-ball from Morgan Quarnberg and slid it past a charging Westminster keeper. The ball had just enough to sneak into the goal before a Griffin defender could clear the attempt and Weber drew even with 12 seconds to play.

The Griffins were only able to get three of those 12 shots on frame and they only maintained a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks. Roemer led the team with four shots and two on goal, including the team's lone tally.

Westminster will play its final exhibition game of the year on August 24 when they host Salt Lake Community College. That game will begin at 5 p.m. from Dumke Field and tickets are available at WestminsterGriffins.com/tickets.
