We return to the 2015-16 #GriffinsReview by taking a look back at the success the Griffins had in the classroom this past academic year.
After posting a grade-point-average (GPA) of 3.352 during the fall semester, the student-athletes at Westminster set a school record with a 3.447 GPA during the spring semester. In the spring, nearly 61 percent of 249 student-athletes finished with a GPA of 3.5 or higher and 14 percent posted a 4.0 GPA.
Two Westminster teams would receive a Brechler Award from the RMAC by posting the highest GPA of any conference team competing in a specific sport. Women's Golf took the award with a 3.63 GPA, the third-highest of any team to receive a Brechler award. The Griffin men's lacrosse team had a 3.44 GPA, which ranked fourth among men's award winners.
The RMAC named
Josh Holland of men's lacrosse and Amara Culpepper from women's volleyball as the top scholar-athletes from Westminster for the 2015-16 year. Culpepper was named second team all-conference and made the RMAC All-Academic Team.
Holland was the RMAC Men's Lacrosse Academic Player of the Year and was named to the RMAC All-Academic Team. He became the first Griffin to be named Academic Player of the Year in any sport.
There was a total of eight Griffins that were chosen to one of the RMAC All-Academic teams.
Jake Berard and
Thomas Sarjeant joined Holland on the men's lacrosse team.
Sean Lyne made the men's soccer team while
Casey Evans was named to the men's basketball team.
Erin Kibler was chosen to the women's cross country squad and
Katie Adams was selected to the women's lacrosse team.
Academic Players of the Year, and First Team All-Academic members, are voted on by the conference's sports information directors. To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must carry a 3.30 cumulative grade point average and must have been an active student at the institution for at least two consecutive semesters or three consecutive quarters.
Another 58 Griffins were named to the RMAC Honor Roll for their respective sports. Westminster track & field had 13 Honor Roll recipients during the indoor season and nine for the indoor season. Women's soccer had seven players named to the Honor Roll with six being named from men's soccer. Both men's and women's lacrosse had five named to the Honor Roll with volleyball receiving four.
