No. 15 Regis Pulls Away in Second Half

SALT LAKE CITY – Things were going good for the Westminster women's lacrosse team through the first 23 minutes on action on Saturday before No. 15 Regis took the game over to claim an 18-6 win at Dumke Field in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play.
 
Katie Adams scored consecutive goals in a 29 seconds window that had Westminster (2-7, 2-4 RMAC) leading 4-3 with 18:29 remaining in the first half. After Regis (10-1, 2-0) scored three straight, Morgan Bakarich out one away at the 7:05 mark of the half that cut the Griffins deficit to 6-5.
 
That would be the Griffins last goal for nearly 30 minutes as the visiting Rangers scored 12 straight goals to lead 18-5 with 11:26 to play. They changed the momentum of the game with four goals in the last 3:43 of the first half to lead 10-5 at intermission.
 
Westminster only got 12 shots in the game and they committed 28 turnovers. After each team took eight draw controls in the first half, Regis finished the game with a 17-8 advantage in the category. The Griffins were 13 of 19 in clearing chances and allowed the Rangers to go 18 of 22.
 
Adams and Bakarich led the Griffins with two goals apiece. Kira Heiden and Daisy Mele recorded the team's other two tallies. Madison Ingman picked up a pair of assists in defeat. Adams led the team with six ground balls and four draw controls.
 
Taylor Hekking suffered the loss in cage with eight saves. Caitlyn Laffey made a pair of stops in her 11 minutes. Adams and Mele posted three caused turnovers apiece.
 
Regis got goals from 11 different players with Wendy Donier leading the team with five. Hilary Duda added four assists to her one goal.
 
The Griffins have two games remaining in the regular season and they will be back in action on April 23 when they host Colorado Mesa at Dumke Field.
