SALT LAKE CITY – The Westminster women's lacrosse team closed out its home schedule with a 20-10 loss to Colorado Mesa on Saturday afternoon in a non-conference game at Dumke Field.

Neither team generated much offense early in the game and when
Kira Heiden scored for Westminster (2-8) with 10:15 to play in the first half the Griffins trailed only 5-4. Colorado Mesa (10-3) then scored six straight goals and eight on the next nine to lead 13-5 with 24:02 left in the second half.

After the Mavericks opened the advantage to 10 with 14:38 remaining, Westminster countered with four consecutive tallies to get within 16-10 with 11:04 on the clock. CMU made sure the lead held with the final four games to earnt he road win.

Daisy Mele led the Griffins with three goals on a six-shot afternoon. Heiden and
Katie Adams scored two goals apiece with Adams adding an assist for a three-point game.

Westminster finished the game with a 32-31 edge in shots and they took 19 draw controls to only 13 from CMU. The Griffins committed 20 turnovers and forced 21 with 10 caused turnovers. The difference in the game was the 16 saves from the visitors to only four by the Griffins.

Heiden had a season-high eight draw controls and Adams picked up five ground balls. Mele, Heiden and
Nicole Burgener totaled two caused turnovers each.
Taylor Hekking made four saves and allowed 12 goals in cage to take the loss.

Jessica Cook led CMU with six goals and one assist. Lexie Chavez added four goals and one assist. Jillian Pfeifer earned the win in goal with 11 saves and five goals allowed in 36 minutes.

These two teams will close the regular season on Friday when they meet at 7 p.m. in Grand Junction, Colo. That game from Walker Field will count towards the RMAC standings.
