GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The Westminster women's lacrosse team saw the 2016 season come to an end with a 20-11 loss at Colorado Mesa on Friday night in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action.

Westminster ends its season with a 2-9 overall record and they finished their inaugural season in the RMAC with a 2-5 record and in sixth place.

After falling behind by four goals midway through the first half on Friday, the Griffins scored four straight goals to even the game at 8-8 with 2:47 remaining in the half. Colorado Mesa (11-3, 5-2RMAC) scored with eight seconds to play in the half to take a lead they never relinquished.

Kira Heiden and
Kathleen Hendershott scored goals in the second half that trimmed the deficit to 13-11 with 19:52 to play before the Mavericks scored the game's final seven goals to complete a season sweep of the Griffins.

CMU finished the game with a 35-30 edge in shots and the home side claimed 22 of the game's 33 draw controls. The Griffins committed just 13 turnovers, but they had 16 shots saved by CMU goalies.

Madison Ingman,
Hanah Carter, and
Morgan Bakarich scored two goals apiece to lead Westminster. Ingman added a pair of assists for a four-point evening. Heiden added two assists to her second half goal to finish with three points.

Taylor Hekking played most of the game in goal for the Griffins and made eight saves in defeat.

CMU was led by five goals apiece from Lexie Chavez and Jessica Cook.
