Griffins Dominate Senior Day; Clinch Share of RMAC Crown

SALT LAKE CITY – The Westminster men's lacrosse team completed its regular season with a 21-9 win over Colorado State University – Pueblo in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play on Sunday afternoon at Dumke Field.

Westminster (8-2, 7-1 RMAC) send its senior class out by clinching at least a share of the RMAC regular season title. They still have a shot at winning the title outright if Colorado Mesa drops its season finale at Rockhurst on Saturday.

"Hats off to the guys for staying focused on the game and not letting the emotion of sending our seniors off the right way prevent us from playing good lacrosse," Westminster head coach Mason Goodhand said.

It was all Griffins on Sunday as they scored the first three goals of the game and led 6-1 after the first quarter. They extended the advantage to 11-2 at halftime and then controlled the second half to secure the win.

Westminster got goals from 10 different players with Cole Flinders and Elias Fairman leading the way with five goals apiece. Blake Bruner added three goals and Josh Holland scored a pair of goal. Thomas Sarjeant notched five assists to lead with team with Holland adding three.

Adding to the success of the seniors was a goal by Dominic Conti, an assists for Pace Cranney and two ground balls for Zach Stout.

The Griffins took 45 shots on the day and they were able to get 25 of those on cage. They won 21 of 34 faceoffs with a 36-28 edge in ground balls. The team was also successful on 23 of 24 clearing chances to help overcome 21 turnovers.

Ryan Coffelt was 7 of 9 faceoffs he took and added a goal. Jake Berard was 14 of 23 with a team-high eight ground balls. Grant Phillips led the team with two caused turnovers. All three goalies saw time with Philip Cannell securing the win with five saves in 36 minutes. Ian Sime recorded four stops.
