DURANGO, Colo. – The Westminster women's volleyball team fell in five sets at Fort Lewis in the road finale on Monday night. Westminster dropped the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference match, 18-25, 25-20, 26-24, 19-25, 11-15.
After dropping the opening set, Westminster (4-22, 2-15 RMAC) was able to get a 2-1 lead behind wins in the second and third sets. The Griffins fell behind early in the fourth set and allowed Fort Lewis (6-19, 5-12) to force the deciding fifth set.
In that fifth set, Westminster went out early and held an 11-9 advantage. The Skyhawks then ran off six straight points to earn a season split in the two matches between the teams.
Fort Lewis finished the night with a 71-61 edge in kills and they hit .284 to the .232 of the Griffins. Westminster only had two blocks in the match and totaled 72 digs and six service aces. Fort Lewis finished with 84 digs, nine blocks, and seven aces.
Aubrey Louder continued her stellar road trip with a career-high 19 kills while hitting .341.
Amara Spere added 18 kills and 10 digs for a fourth double-double this season.
Sydnee Simmons added nine kills and
Savannah Ipsen had eight.
Hannah Stearman led the Griffins defensive effort with 19 digs and two aces. Ipsen had 17 digs and one ace.
Taylor Gustafson head a season-high 52 assists to finish one off her career high.
Bailey Longacre led Fort Lewis with 18 kills and .455 hitting. Hannah Martinez added 15 kills with Laine Waters getting 13.
