SALT LAKE CITY – The Westminster men's soccer team closed the home season with a 1-0 loss to MSU Denver on Sunday afternoon in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action.

Westminster (3-12, 2-10 RMAC) had more chances on the day as they outshot MSU Denver 9-4. The Griffins weren't able to put any of their seven shots on goal past the MSU Denver (9-6-1, 7-4-1) keeper and were shutout for the second straight game.

The visitors tallied the game's only goal in the 56th minute when Jeff Gillis scored his fourth goal of the season. Tyler Trujillo crossed the ball off the fingers of Westminster keeper
Max Medley. The ball settled at the foot of Gillis who shot on an empty net.

The Griffins had a chance to even the game in the 89th minute with a
Hunter Stutz free kick that was turned away. The rebound chance led to a
Cristian Alfaro attempt from distance that was also stopped by Hayden Rus for the Roadrunners.

Alfaro led the Griffins with three shots on the day and he put two of those attempts on goal. Stutz and
Preston McIllece also had two shots on goal each.

Westminster will close the season with two road games next weekend. They visit South Dakota Mines on Friday for a 6 p.m. game that will be broadcast live on the
RMAC Network.
