SALT LAKE CITY – The Westminster women's volleyball team put three players in double figures in kills as they defeated Fort Lewis 25-17, 21-25, 25-23, 25-17 on Saturday afternoon in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action.
Westminster (4-17, 2-10) started quickly and rode 14 kills and .225 hitting to the first set victory. Fort Lewis (4-16, 3-9) forced 10 Griffin hitting errors in the second set to even the match at one set apiece.
Trailing 22-17 in the third, Westminster rallied all the way back to take a 2-1 lead. They then rode that momentum to take the fourth and win the match.
It was the Griffin offense that carried most of the load on Saturday. The team secured 51 kills in the win and hit .186.
Savannah Ipsen (15 kills),
Amara Spere (14 kills), and
Aubrey Louder (12 kills) combined for 41 of those kills.
Ipsen posted a double-double with 10 digs and she had two service aces.
Hannah Stearman finished with a team-best 17 digs while
Taylor Gustafson had 39 assists and 14 digs.
Katie Allen led the team with five blocks.
Westminster finished with a 65-59 advantage in digs and recorded 11 blocks and five aces. Fort Lewis totaled 45 kills and .095 hitting. The Griffins force3d the visitors into 20 hitting errors in the final two sets.
Hannah Martinez led Fort Lewis with 12 kills and 20 digs.
