Westminster Falls at Home to Mountain Lions

SALT LAKE CITY – The Westminster men's soccer team came up on the wrong side of a 3-0 final against University of Colorado Colorado Springs on Friday afternoon at Dumke Field in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action.
 
Westminster (3-11, 2-9 RMAC) suffers its fourth straight loss and was shutout by UCCS (9-5-1, 8-3) for the second time this season.
 
The visiting side took the lead in the 14th minute when Alex Vonholle scored on an open net. Blake Barnes crossed the ball into the penalty area where Jake McAllister let it go the far post for a wide open Vonholle.
 
It remained 1-0 into the 55th minute when the Mountain Lions used a penalty kick from Cort Serals to double their advantage. The game's final tally came in the 64th minute as Jake Demerath scored at the conclusion of feeds by Sam Gomez and JR Calhoun.
 
The Griffins best chance to score came in the 31st minute when Erik Hulbert fired a shot from 35 yards away that the UCCS keeper poked over the crossbar and the final moment.
 
Hulbert's shot was one of four attempts by the Griffins that was on frame on the day. They took five shots total. UCCS finished the game with 10 shots and they put five on frame.
 
Blaze Nelson led the Griffins with two shots, putting each on goal.
 
Max Medley finished with two saves in goal for the Griffins in defeat.
