SALT LAE CITY – The Westminster men's soccer team dropped a 1-0 game to Fort Lewis on Sunday afternoon at Dumke Field in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play.
Â
The game was scoreless at the half with Fort Lewis (5-5, 4-2 RMAC) taking an 8-2 edge in shots into the intermission. The score remained that way into the 74th minute when Robbie Young collected a failed Westminster (2-7, 1-5) clearance and fired a one-touch shot into the net for his first goal of the season.
Â
Westminster had the game's first opportunity as
Cristian Alfaro had a shot turned away in just the second minute. That would be the only shot on goal for the Griffins as they were outshot in the contest, 20-4.
Â
Max Medley made seven saves to keep the Griffins within striking distance. His final stop came in the 88th minute as he denied a header from inside the six-yard box to keep the game at 1-1.
Jaden Olsen would get a chance for the home side 90 seconds later that drifted over the crossbar.
Â
Fort Lewis took 12 of their shots in the second half and they finished the game with an 8-0 advantage in corner kicks.
Â
The Griffins will be back in action on Friday when they continue its three-game homestand with a 3 p.m. game against Colorado Christian. Tickets for the game are available by visiting
