PUEBLO, Colo. – The Westminster men's soccer team came up short in a 3-1 decision at Colorado State University – Pueblo on Sunday afternoon in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play.
Westminster (3-10, 2-8 RMAC) fell behind in the 11th minute on the third goal of the season from Dycus Kelly. CSU-Pueblo (6-8, 4-6) saw Connor Marth feed the ball to Kelly for the early lead.
The Griffins would even the contest in the 32nd minute with
Cristian Alfaro converting a penalty kick for his team-leading fourth goal of the season. The goal came on the second made penalty of the season for Westminster.
Pueblo didn't wait long to get the lead back as Mackenzie Paquette scored on a corner kick from Santiago Tinta just under three minutes later.
The visiting side tried to pull even in the second half as they had a four-minute stretch with three shots and a pair of them on goal. They weren't able to find the equalizer and then in the 87th minute Jose Batista scored on a pass by Nick Mangialardi to seal the win.
Westminster finished the game with nine shot attempts. Alfaro had two shots on goal while
Andrew Clayton added the team's final scoring chance. Pueblo took 11 shots in the game and put four on frame.
Max Medley took the loss in goal for the Griffins with one save.
The Griffins will now return home for the final two games this season next weekend. They will host UCCS on Friday at 3 p.m. to start the action. Tickets for both remaining home games are available at
