Westminster Falls to Roadrunners 62-42

DENVER – The Westminster women's basketball team dropped a second straight game by falling 62-42 at MSU Denver on Saturday night in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action.
 
Westminster (5-8, 2-7 RMAC) has now dropped six of its last seven games, including four straight on the road, after beating MSU Denver (7-8, 5-4) on December 11 in Salt Lake City.
 
MSU Denver opened up a 10-point lead in the opening moments of the second quarter before the Griffins began to chip away. They used a 9-3 run to get within 23-19 on a Denise Gonzalez 3-pointer with 2:09 to play in the half. Gonzalez made another three as time expired in the half to send the game to break with the Roadrunners leading 28-24.
 
After a Jessica Sorensen layup to start the third quarter had the lead down to two, the home squad went on a 13-2 run to help them outscore the Griffins 18-7 in the quarter. The scoring burst would expand to 24-8 to see the lead reach 52-34 with 6:17 to play.
 
Gonzalez would finish the game with a team high 13 points for her eighth double-digit scoring effort of the season. She made three triples in the game and had two assists and three steals. Mika Pinner added 12 points, six rebounds, and three blocked shots.
 
The Griffins shot just 30.2 percent from the field and had 10 assists on 16 made baskets. They went 7 of 23 from beyond the arc and 3 for 6 at the foul line. MSU Denver shot 39.4 percent, but they scored 21 points from 20 offensive rebounds.
 
Hannah Stipanovich scored 12 points to lead four Roadrunners in double figures. Georgia Ohrdorf had a game high 11 rebounds with her 10 points.
