COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Westminster women's basketball team opened a weekend road trip with a 77-50 loss at University of Colorado Colorado Springs on Friday night in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action.

Denise Gonzalez led Westminster (5-7, 2-6 RMAC) with 16 points, nine rebounds and five assists. The Griffins made just 30.0 percent of their field goal attempts and were 4 of 23 from beyond the arc. UCCS (9-5, 5-3) made 50.8 percent from the field and made 8 of 18 from three.

Trailing 20-11 after the first quarter, the Griffins cut the gap to 22-18 with 6:18 to play in the half by scoring seven straight points. They wouldn't score again the rest of the quarter as UCCS ran off the final 15 points of the frame to lead 37-18 at intermission. Westminster only made eight baskets in the half and went empty on nine 3-point attempts.

The Griffins could only get within 12 at any point of the second half as UCCS completed the season sweep of the series.

Gonzalez scored her 16 points on 8 of 17 shooting. Five of her rebounds came on the offensive end and she didn't have a turnover in the game.
Mika Pinner and
Sicilee Williams scored eight points apiece for the Griffins. Pinner also had eight rebounds, two assists, and two steals.
Jessica Sorensen added seven points and six rebounds with five coming from Griffin misses.

Brittany Hernandez, the RMAC's leading scorer, finished with a game high 21 points. She also grabbed seven rebounds with two assists, three steals, and three blocked shots.

Westminster returns to the court on Saturday when they look for a season sweep of MSU Denver with a 5 p.m. MT contest at the home of the Roadrunners in Denver.
