Griffins Complete Perfect Trip; Shutout Chaminade 2-0

HONOLULU – The Westminster women's soccer team got a pair of goal from Rylei North to defeat Chaminade, 2-0, on Monday evening at Saint Louis Field to complete a perfect three-game trip to Hawaii.

North gave the Griffins (3-0) the lead in the 12th minute with a shot from distance. After Chaminde (1-1) gave the ball away in their defensive third, North took a shot from 25 yards out at the left angle that went over the keeper for the early advantage.

Westminster carried that lead into intermission after taking 11 shots in the half with six of them on goal. The lead was doubled in the 50th minute when North finished a scrum in front of the net for her eighth career multi-goal game. Alicia May played the ball into North and was credited with her first career assist.

The Griffins had another nine shots (two on goal) in the second half as they finished the evening with a 20-5 edge in that category. Their pressure on the home side was constant and led to eight corner kicks.

North finished the game by matching her career-best with eight shots – tied for fourth-most in team history – and she put four of those shots on frame. Madeline Orr took three shots with one on goal and McKell Kellogg had two attempts.

Westminster split time between two keepers with Abi Yanke earning the win with two saves in the first half. She has now gone 203 minutes without allowing a goal. Breanna Empey played the second half and made two saves in her season debut.

The Griffins will now set their sights on Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action with 11 days off before facing Colorado Christian at Dumke Field on Sept. 18.
