ALAMOSA, Colo. – The Westminster women's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision at Adams State in their first Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference road game on Friday afternoon at the ASU Soccer Field.
Westminster (4-2, 1-2 RMAC) found themselves trailing in the 20th minute when Shleby McBain put a shot away for her first goal of the season. Adams State (3-1-3, 1-1-1) held that advantage into the halftime break with a 6-3 edge in shot attempts.
The Griffins would draw even in the 59th minute on a corner kick.
Korral Koehler played the corner into the penalty area where
Rylei North came onto the end of it and put it away. The fifth goal of the season for North came of the first career assist for Koehler.
The game remained level into the 77th minute when the home Grizzlies took the 2-1 advantage with a corner kick of their own. Carissa Sidor played the ball in where it found Lacey Daniel for the finish and her second goal of the season.
Libby Dearden had a shot turned away in the 84th minute that kept the Griffins trailing. Koehler then had an attempt blocked in the 88th minute that was the final of the team's 11 shots and they put six on goal. ASU also finished with 10 shots and they put five on frame.
North finished the game with four shots and three on goal. Koehler had two shots and was the only other Griffin with multiple attempts.
This was the first time this season the Griffins had allowed multiple goals in a game with both being charged to
Abi Yanke who took the loss in goal with three saves.
Westminster will complete the road trip on Sunday afternoon when they visit Fort Lewis at 1 p.m. in Durango, Colo.
