GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The Westminster men's soccer team drop their third straight game with a loss to the Mavericks of Colorado Mesa University 3-1 Friday night at Walker Field.
Westminster falls to 1-4 for the season and 0-3 in RMAC play. The Mavericks move to 1-1 in conference play, and 4-2-1 for the season.
The Mavericks started the game off with a quick goal from Oscar Odriozola at the eighth minute with the assist from Kevin Del Mazo. The Mavericks attempted four more shots on goal in the first half with no success, while holding the Griffins to only two shots on goal in the first half.
In the second half the Griffins rallied and scored at the 59 minute to tie it up 1-1. The goal came from
Finn Townsley with the assist going to
Jacob Smith. The score remained tied until the 76 minute mark when the Maverick's, Moshe Perez, scored a penalty kick. Four minutes later Perez scored another goal on a cross from Kevin Escobar.
Colorado Mesa finished the night with seven attempts on goal finding the back of the net on three. The Griffins had two attempts, scoring on only one of those.
Westminster will continue RMAC play on Sunday at noon in Denver, Colo. facing Regis.
