SALT LAKE CITY – The Westminster women's soccer team saw its four-game winning streak to start the season come to an end with a 1-0 loss to Colorado School of Mines in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference match at Dumke Field on Sunday afternoon.
The Griffins (4-1, 1-1 RMAC) played the preseason favorite in the conference to a scoreless first half with a 6-3 edge in shot attempts. Colorado Mines (4-2, 2-0) took the lead in the 66th minute when Haley Cole struck on a corner kick. Acacia Ortiz played the ball into the penalty area where Cole ran onto the end of it and directed in the goal for her first of the season.
Westminster had a chance to tie in the 79th minute on a corner kick of their own.
Korral Koehler played the ball where
Madison Roemer was able to head a shot wide. The final attempt of the game gave the Griffins a 10-8 advantage in shots during the game, but they only had two on goal.
Roemer finished with three shots on the day and
Rylei North also had three with both of the team's shots on frame.
Abi Yanke suffered the loss in goal with one save.
The Griffins will be on the road next weekend for a pair of conference games. The first of that trip in on Friday at Adams State in Alamosa, Colo.
