Westminster Upended by UCCS, 2-0

SALT LAKE CITY – The Westminster men's soccer team dropped its second straight outing with a 2-0 loss to UC Colorado Springs in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action at Dumke Field on Sunday afternoon.

Westminster falls to 1-3 overall this season and 0-2 in the RMAC with the loss. UCCS moves to 3-2 and 1-0 with the road win.

The visiting squad took the lead late in the first half on a goal from Jack Richins. Derek Saunier played a long ball over the Westminster defense where Richins chipped it over the charging keeper and it rolled into the goal for his first of the season.

The game remained 1-0 until the 87th minute when Cort Searls forced a Griffin turnover and dribbled the ball into the goal on an open net for his first goal of the year.

UCCS finished the afternoon with a 15-3 edge in shots with the Emilio Giokas getting the Griffins only shot on goal. Taylor Ruff took the loss in goal with four saves.

Westminster will now take to the road for three straight games. That span begins on Friday with a trip to Grand Junction, Colo., to face Colorado Mesa.
