DENVER – The Westminster women's volleyball team completed its weekend trip to Colorado with a three-set loss at MSU Denver in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play on Saturday evening at the Auraria Event Center.
Westminster (3-7, 0-2 RMAC) was led by
Jessica Chellsen and her 12 kills, but they only had 30 kills in the match as a team. MSU Denver (3-7, 1-1) had 47 kills and they hit .312 while holding the visiting Griffins to .122 hitting.
Chellsen hit .207 to get her season-high kill total and she added three blocks.
Amara Culpepper added six kills and three blocks and
Alyse Horton had four kills and eight digs.
MSU Denver tallied 16 kills and hit .407 in the opening set that they won 25-20. The Griffins only had 10 kills in the frame and then posted 11 in the second, but dropped the set 25-20 as the home squad recorded 18 kills. The final set went to MSUD 25-16 after they had 13 kills and hit .345 while holding the Griffins tin in kills and .074 hitting.
Megan Gallegos finished with 13 kills for her second straight double digit outing. The Griffins had 41 digs and also posted four blocks.
Michaela Smith led the Roadrunners with 13 kills and hit .400 while Vasati Fiatoa hit .471 with nine kills.
Westminster will now return home when they will host Colorado Mesa in their first home match of the season on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the Behnken Field House.
