BOULDER, Colo. – The No. 6 Westminster men's lacrosse team saw its quest for its first Rocky Mountain Lacrosse Conference Division I Tournament title fall short with a 12-11 loss to No. 8 Brigham Young late Friday night at Kittredge Field.
Â
Westminster (9-5) was the tournament's top seed after winning the regular season title. Brigham Young (14-4) entered as the No. 4 seed.
Â
Friday's game was level at 3-3 when the game hit halftime. The team then traded goals early in the second half and with 8:14 to play in the third quarter, each team had six goals. BYU then scored four straight goals and six of the next seven to hold a 12-7 advantage with 11:42 remaining in the fourth quarter.
Â
The Griffins would then start a rally as
Elias Fairman notched his second goal of the night with 7:37 on the clock.
Troy Vance found the net with 2:51 to play and then
Eric Crosby scored 48 seconds later and suddenly the Griffin deficit was just one.
Â
Westminster will get an extra-man opportunity with 15 seconds to play. They found
Josh Holland who ripped a shot just high as time expired.
Â
Holland had three goals in the game to lead the Griffins.
