GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The Westminster men's lacrosse team stepped out of MCLA action to close the regular season and they dropped a 22-9 decision to Colorado Mesa on Friday night at Walker Field.

Westminster – the No. 7-ranked team in the MCLA – had its six-game winning streak snapped as they fall to 9-4 overall this season. Colorado Mesa improves to 8-3 on the season with the victory.

The Griffins were within 3-2 with 5:11 to play in the first quarter before the home squad ran off 10 consecutive goals over the next 15 minutes of action to open a 13-2 advantage. CMU finished the game with a 52-30 edge in shot attempts and they had 38 ground balls to the 19 from the Griffins.

Josh Holland led the Griffins by scoring five goals in the game. He took eight shots with six on goal.
Troy Vance and
Elias Fairman added two goals apiece.
Ryan Coffelt led the team with four ground balls and
Erik Gronseth recorded nine saves.

Jake Douglas led the Mavericks with four goals while Austin Pridham scored three times. Zach Weaver notched eight saves in cage to earn the victory.

Westminster will now turn its attention to the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse Conference Tournament that begins on May 1 in Boulder, Colo. The Griffins are the No. 1-seed in the tournament and they will face the No. 4-seed, presumably Brigham Young, at 7 p.m.
