Griffin Women Win Seventh-Straight Frontier Title

LEWISTON, Idaho – The No. 3 Westminster women's basketball team secured its seventh-straight Frontier Conference regular season championship with a 67-43 win at Lewis-Clark State (Idaho) on Thursday night in the Lewiston Activity Center.
 
Westminster (22-2, 12-1 Frontier) dominated the first half and cruised to a 12th-straight victory. The Griffins shot 51.9 percent from the floor in the first 20 minutes while holding Lewis-Clark State (20-9, 6-7) to just five baskets in the period to lead 34-13 at the break. They put together a 22-4 run during an eight-minute span to blow the game open.
 
LC State would trim the 26-point second half deficit down to 13 with 8:00 remaining the game before the Griffins closed out the contest 18 of the game's final 23 points. Westminster shot 46.4 percent in the second half and they finished the game with seven threes.
 
Amy Krommenhoek led four Griffins in double figures with 20 points to tie her season high and notch the fourth 20-point game of her career. The senior went 6-of-10 from the field and made four of her seven attempts from beyond the arc. She also added five rebounds, five assists, one steal and one blocked shot.
 
The Griffins had a 40-18 advantage in points in the paint while scoring 13 points from 13 offensive rebounds. They had a 40-23 edge on the glass and held the Warriors to just 34 percent shooting. Each team committed 12 turnovers, but the Griffins scored 16 from those chances while only allowing nine.
 
Shelby Ellsworth added 14 points and a season-high 14 rebounds for the Griffins. It was her first double-digit rebounding effort of the season. Tia Pappas contributed 13 points and eight rebounds while Alli Winters went 3-of-6 from deep to finish with 11 points.
 
Caelyn Orlandi led the Warriors with nine points and Kelli Rice added eight.
 
Westminster will complete the regular season on Saturday when they face Montana Tech at 5:30 p.m. (MT) in Butte, Mont. The Griffins will host a Frontier Conference Tournament semifinal game on March 6 at 7 p.m. (MT) in the Behnken Field House.
