LAKEWOOD, Colo. – The Westminster men's basketball team claimed their first Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference road win with a 69-64 win at Colorado Christian on Friday night.
 
Westminster (7-1, 3-1 RMAC) led wire-to-wire to secure the victory. They shot a season high 37 free throws, tied for 10th-most in a game in team history, and they shot 75.7 percent in those attempts.
 
The Griffins opened the game with a 10-2 run, including eight straight to cap the run. They were able to get the lead to 38-28 after 
Kenny Woodard scored in the final minute of the half. Colorado Christian (4-6, 0-4 RMAC) had the final five points of the period to cut the Griffins lead to 38-33 at halftime.
 
The lead would reach its largest of the night, 51-39, when Woodard hit a three with 12:48 to play in the second half. CCU mounted a 10-4 run late in the second half that concluded with the Westminster lead trimmed to 63-60 with 59.2 seconds to play. The visitors would secure the win by hitting their final six free throws.
 
Westminster finished the game shooting 41.9 percent from the floor while holding the Cougars to just 31.4 percent. The Griffins grabbed 39 rebounds and scored 18 points from 15 CCU turnovers.
 
Woodard led all players by scoring 21 points, his second 20-point outing of the year. He only made four baskets, but the RMAC's leading foul shooter was 12 of 13 at the stripe. 
Zerrion Payton added 14 points behind 8 of 8 at the foul line. He also grabbed a career high 11 rebounds for his first career double-double.
 
Wayne McCullough led CCU with 18 points while Jacob Taylor and Zach McLemore had 11 and 10 respectively.
 
The Griffins will close out their December slate of games on Saturday when they play at Colorado School of Mines. The action from Golden, Colo. will tip at 7 p.m. MT.
