SALT LAKE CITY – The Westminster women's basketball team had four players score in double figures as they cruised to an 88-60 win over Northwest Nazarene in the team's home opener on Friday afternoon in the Behnken Field House.

"We took better shots tonight," Westminster head coach
Shelley Jarrard said of her team's performance. "We haven't shot it this well all season. I feel we have turned a corner in each game and that was true again tonight."

Westminster (3-1) got a combined 43 points from
Denise Gonzalez and
Aubrie Vale in the duo's first ever home game as a Griffin. Gonzalez led all scorers with 22 points while getting five assists and five steals. Vale went for 21 points with 11 rebounds.

The Griffins took control of the game in the second quarter when they outscored Northwest Nazarene (1-4), 28-13. They continued that run through a third quarter in which the Griffins outscored their opponent 23-7.

Westminster finished the game shooting 57.4 percent from the field and they went 9 of 15 (60 percent) from beyond the arc. They assisted on 20 of their 31 made field goals with 17 turnovers. NNU was held to 32.4 percent shooting, but they grabbed 24 offensive rebounds for 16 points.

Jessica Sorensen and
Sicilee Williams added 14 points apiece for the Griffins.
Natalie Parsons scored six points with six rebounds, six assists, and five steals.

The Crusaders were led by 10 points from Lexi Tubbs and seven by McKenna Walker.
