DURANGO, Colo. – The Westminster women's basketball team opened the 2015-16 season with a 73-46 loss at Fort Lewis College on Friday night at the Skyhawks Regional Challenge.
Westminster (0-1) led 15-14 after the opening quarter and the game was even at 24-24 with 3:55 to play in the half. That is when Fort Lewis (1-0) took over the game with a 13-4 burst to lead 38-27 at intermission.
The home squad continued that play into the third quarter and outscored the Griffins 27-8 in the period.
Westminster shot just 30.4 percent from the field and made just 3 of 24 from beyond the arc. They committed 16 turnovers, which resulted in 19 Skyhawk points. FLC shot 42.3 percent form the floor and made 10 threes.
Natalie Parson scored 13 points in her Griffin debut to lead the team. The senior was 5 of 10 from the field with four assists and one triple.
Riley Reidhead added seven points and
Lancee Whetman scored six.
Kylie Santon led Fort Lewis with 13 points while Michelle Turner and Kate Bayes scored nine points apiece.
The Griffins will complete the opening weekend of play on Saturday with a 1 p.m. MT game against Adams State. The game will be broadcast live on Griffins TV at
