Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Regis Hands Griffins 1-0 Loss in Overtime

SALT LAKE CITY – The Westminster women's soccer team had its two-game home winning streak snapped with a 1-0 overtime loss to Regis University in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference match at Dumke Field on Sunday afternoon.

The two teams played a scoreless 90 minutes of regulation with each side taking nine shots. Regis (6-3-1, 3-2-2 RMAC) escaped victorious in just the second minute of overtime when Sid Otto sent a shot on goal that slipped through the Westminster keeper's hands and rolled into the goal.

It was the only blemish for Abi Yanke in the game as she made four saves and had extended her streak of consecutive minutes without a goal to 284 minutes until the winner.

Westminster (6-4, 3-4) had chances in both halves to take they lead, but they couldn't break through. Alicia May had a chip from distance hit the post in the 18th minute. Madison Roemer then had three chances in a four-minute span in the second half. Two of them were just outside the post and the other hit the crossbar.

The Griffins had a 5-2 edge in first half shots before Regis took eight of the game's final 12 attempts. The visiting side also had six corner kicks to none by the Griffins and the two teams combined for nine fouls.

Westminster will now play its next four matches on the road with the first of those coming on Friday at Western State Colorado at 3 p.m.
