SALT LAKE CITY – The Westminster men's soccer team had its losing streak extended to five games with a 5-1 loss to Regis University on Friday evening at Dumke Field.

Westminster (2-12-1) fell behind in the 17th minute when Brian Strasbaugh scored the first of his two goal on the day on a shot to the left post from the top of the penalty area. Regis (6-9) would double the advantage to 2-0 in the 42nd minute when Sawyer Lincoln scored from inside the penalty area.

The Griffins got some life in the 60th minute as
Hunter Kone scored to cut the deficit in half.
Emilio Giokas played the ball to the right of the penalty area where Kone collected and put his shot inside the left post.

Regis would answer with two goals in a span of two minutes just seven minutes later. Strasbaugh hit one insde the right post in the 67th minute and then Sean Ward redirected a free kick into the goal in the 69th minute. Both goals were assisted by Eduardo Belmar. The Rangers would add a fifth goal in the 85th minute as Quinton Carey tapped one on a rebound.

Westminster put all three of their shot attempts in the game on goal. They allowed Regis to take 19 shots with 12 of those on target. The Griffins got shots from
Jonnathan Rodriguez and
Jacob Smith to go with the Kone goal.

Sean Lyne took the loss in goal for the Griffins with seven saves.

The Griffins will close the 2015 season on Sunday when they host South Dakota Mines in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference game. The team will recognize its senior class in a brief ceremony prior to the 1 p.m. start at Dumke Field. Tickets are available at
