Westminster Falls to Hardrockers, 1-0, in Season Finale

SALT LAKE CITY – The Westminster men's soccer team surrendered a late goal and fell to South Dakota Mines, 1-0, in the season finale at Dumke Field on Sunday afternoon.

Westminster ends the season at 2-13-1 overall and they went 1-8-1 during their first season as a member of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.

The Griffins were playing a man-down for the final 10 minutes of action after a red card was issued to Michael Porter for fouling to stop a scoring situation. South Dakota Mines (2-15-1, 2-8-0 RMAC) took advantage five minutes later when Brett Bender buried a shot from 30 yards out for the game's only goal.

The goal came on a counter attack after Jaden Olsen had a chance turned away by the SDSMT keeper in the 84th minute. That was the final of the Griffins 10 shots and was one of four them team put on goal. The visiting side had 12 shots and they were able to get five on frame.

Taylor Ruff made four saves in goal in his final collegiate game and suffered the loss. He was joined by fellow seniors, Aaron Rees and Emilio Giokas, who were playing in their final games as a Griffin.
