LAS VEGAS, N.M. – The Westminster women's volleyball team won its first road match in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play with a 3-1 win at New Mexico Highlands on Saturday night at the Wilson Complex.
Westminster (5-10, 2-5 RMAC) got 32 kills from the senior duo of
Alyse Horton and
Jessica Chellsen to snap its three-match losing streak with the 14-25, 25-21, 25-17, 25-21 victory.
Chellsen matched her career high with 16 kills and she finished the night hitting .419 and one block. Horton hit .256 to get her 16 kills and she added 14 digs to notch her fourth double-double of the season.
The Griffins finished the match with 53 kills – their second-most in a match this season – and they hit .211 as a team. They held New Mexico Highlands (4-10, 1-6) to 46 kills and just .160 hitting. Westminster had five players in double figures in digs led by 28 from
Megan Gallegos.
Amara Culpepper added 11 kills, eight digs, and two blocks.
Jacey Saunders recorded a career high 50 assists which ranks as the second-most for a four set match in school history. She also tallied 11 digs for her fourth double-double.
Talise Babbitt led NMHU with nine kills and .38 hitting. Kristin Woody and Andrea Nunez added eight kills apiece.
Westminster now returns home for a pair of matches next weekend in the Behnken Field House. They welcome Western State Colorado on Friday at 7 p.m. MT with tickets available at WestminsterGriffins.com/tickets.
