COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Westminster men's soccer team allowed two goals in the first half and couldn't draw even in a 2-1 loss at UC-Colorado Springs on Sunday afternoon at Mountain Lion Stadium.
Westminster, playing its final road game of the season, drops to 2-11-1 overall this season. They are 1-7-1 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action with one conference game remaining. UCCS improves to 11-4 overall and they sweep the season series with the Griffins.
The home side would take the 1-0 lead in the 12th minute when Jake McAllister notched his second goal of the season on a feed from JR Calhoun. The Mountain Lions would extend to 2-0 in the 33rd minute with a goal from Blake Barnes on a free kick.
Down 2-0 after the halftime intermission, Westminster got one back in the 50th minute when senior
Aaron Rees scored. The defender notched his first career goal in his 69th career game. The Griffins would get three more shots down the stretch, all from
Brody Nelson, with two of them wide and one of them saved.
UCCS would finish the afternoon with a 16-9 advantage in total shots. The Griffins got six of their attempts in the second half and they finished the game with three shots on goal.
Taylor Ruff took the loss in goal for the Griffins with six saves.
Westminster will close the season with a pair of home games next weekend. The first of those outings comes on Friday when they host Regis University at 4 p.m. at Dumke Field. Tickets for the game are available at
