DENVER – The Westminster men's soccer team scored in the 71st minute, but they couldn't find an equalizer in a 2-1 loss at MSU Denver on Friday night at the Regency Athletic Complex.
Â
MSU Denver (11-3-1) took the 1-0 lead in the 20th minute when Josh Belfrage put a shot off the Westminster keeper and into the goal. That lead would hold into halftime despite the home side taking a 12-2 shot advantage into the break.
Â
The Roadrunners added a needed insurance goal in the 63rd minute when Danny Arrubla converted a penalty kick. That gold would prove crucial as the Griffins (2-10-1) would get the first career goal from
Jordan Jones on a breakaway in the 71st minute.
Â
That would be the final shot of the night for the Griffins who only took four in the game. Jones got two of those chances and had the team's only two shots on goal.
Taylor Ruff suffered the loss in goal with five saves.
Â
Westminster will close the road trip on Sunday when they travel to Mountain Lion Stadium to face UC-Colorado Springs on Sunday at 1 p.m.
