DURANGO, Colo. – The Westminster men's soccer team had its losing skid extend to five straight games with a 3-0 loss at Fort Lewis College on Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play at Dirks Field on Friday afternoon.
Westminster (1-6, 0-5 RMAC) fell behind in the 18th minute when Malik Badawi scored off a rebound to give Fort Lewis (7-2, 4-0) the early advantage. The game remained 1-0 into intermission despite the home side posting a 13-1 edge in shot attempts.
The Skyhawks extended their lead in the 62nd minute when Martin Lopez scored from the left corner of the penalty area. They added the final tally in the 82nd minute with a goal by Zak Lawrence.
The Griffins got six shots off in the second half and had an opportunity in the 52nd minute when a
Hunter Stutz shot hit the post.
Josh Jackson had a chance saved moments later to keep the Griffins scoreless.
Brody Nelson sent a shot wide in the 78th minute that was the final opportunity to break the scoring drought.
Stutz finished the game with a team-high three shots and Nelson got off two attempts.
Sean Lyne suffered the loss in goal with six saves.
