ALAMOSA, Colo. – The Westminster women's volleyball team surrendered a 2-1 lead and fell to Adams State in five sets on Friday night in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference match at Plachy Hall Gym.

With the loss 25-11, 14-25, 25-20, 20-25, 11-15 loss, Westminster slips to 5-13 overall and 2-8 in RMAC play. Adams State improves to 5-13 and 4-6.

The Griffins came out quickly and hit .444 with 15 kills in the opening set victory. They would not hit higher that .154 in any of the next four sets and ended the night with 51 kills and .195 hitting. Adams State would tally 56 kills and hit .170 in the match.

Amara Culpepper was the only Griffin in double figures with 18 kills. The sophomore would hit .271 with five blocks and two digs on the night.
Jessica Chellsen added nine kills and .286 hitting while
Alyse Horton and
Desiree Wickwar had seven kills apiece.

Each team had nine blocks in the match and ASU finished with a 66-57 edge in digs. The Griffins recorded five service aces and only gave up three aces.

Horton and
Megan Gallegos went for 14 digs each.
Taylor Gustafson had 25 assists with
Jacey Saunders getting 20.

Adams State has three players in double figures in kills with Alex Parker leading all players with 19. Briannah Mariner had 13 kills and 17 digs and Mallory Grimsrud added 12 kills and four blocks.

Westminster will be back in action on Saturday when they play at Fort Lewis at 5 p.m. in Durango, Colo.
