SANTA CLARITA, Calif. – The Westminster men's soccer team entered Friday's game against Westmont (Calf.) at The Master's College Tournament having recorded five consecutive shutouts and not allowing a goal in nearly 550 minutes of action. Both streaks came to an end with a Westmont goal in the 10th-minute that they carried to a 1-0 victory at Reese Field.
It was Austin Lack that scored the early goal, getting one past Westminster (5-1-1) keeper,
Taylor Ruff. The goal came on one of the two shots that Westmont (1-1) was able to put on goal.
The Griffins created the better chances for the rest of the first half and entered halftime with a 7-3 edge in shots. They were able to get four of those attempts on target. Westminster only managed one shot in the second half, but it missed wide.
Jordan Jones and
Manuel Duenas led the Griffins with two shots apiece. Jones was able to get both of his shots on frame. Ruff finished the contest with one save in defeat.
Westminster will look to get back on track on Saturday when they face The Master's (Calif.) in a 5 p.m. MT game at Reese Field. The Griffins defeated the Mustangs, 2-0, at Dumke Field on Aug. 23.
