SALT LAKE CITY – The Westminster men's soccer team came up short with a 1-0 loss against McPherson (Kan.) at Dumke Field on Friday in the team's first home game after playing the previous six on the road.
Neither team was able to find the net in the first half despite McPherson (4-2) finishing the first 45 minutes with an 8-3 advantage in shot attempts. The visitors would find the game's only goal in the 75th minute when Kevin Ndongo rebounded a shot from Oscar Cortez for his first goal of the season and the game-winner.
Westminster (7-5-1) finished the contest with eight shots, but they only managed to get three of them on goal. The Griffins did hold a 5-4 edge in corner kicks while McPherson took 14 shots and put eight on goal.
Sean Lyne suffered the loss in goal for the Griffins despite making six saves.
Westminster will return to Dumke Field on Saturday when they host Great Falls (Mont.) in a Frontier Conference match that starts at 1:30 p.m. MT.
