SALT LAKE CITY – The Westminster men's soccer team dropped a second straight home game with a 1-0 loss to Great Falls (Mont.) in a Frontier Conference game on Saturday afternoon at Dumke Field.
Great Falls (8-1, 2-0 Frontier) had several chances turned away by Westminster's
Logan Butzier as they took 21 shots with eight on goal in the game. The visitors were able to break through in the 85th minute when Jon-Eric Krans fired a shot from just outside the penalty area that snuck inside the near post for his first goal of the season. Jose Pena, the UGF keeper, picked up an assist on the play as his drop kick led into the attack from Krans.
Westminster (7-6-1, 1-1) finished the game with four shots and two on goal. Their best opportunity came in the 72nd minute when
Josh Jackson had his shot turned away by Pena.
Butzier finished the game with seven saves, but suffered his first loss of the season.
The Griffins will now have a few weeks off before returning to action on Oct. 11 when they travel to Helena, Mont. for a Frontier game against Carroll (Mont.).
