Griffins into Title Game with 70-42 Semifinal Win Against Western

Box Score SALT LAKE CITY – The No. 3 Westminster College women's basketball team advanced to the Frontier Conference Championship Game with a 70-42 win over Montana Western on Saturday night in the Behnken Field House.

Westminster, the tournament's top seed, has now won 16-straight game overall and they advance to the conference title game for a sixth-straight season. They are now 23-2 overall this season as they prepare to host Tuesday's game against the winner of the Lewis-Clark State (Idaho) and Montana State-Northern game.

The Griffins took control of Saturday's semifinal right from the start as they put together a 26-4 run over a 10-minute span to lead 26-6 with 8:32 to play in the half. They shot 8-of-12 from the field and 5-of-7 from beyond the arc during the run while forcing Montana Western (15-13) into eight turnovers. Amy Krommenhoek scored eight points with a pair of treys during the span.

For the game, Westminster shot 47.8 percent from the floor with 20 points in the paint. They connected on nine threes and also went 17-of-19 (89.5%) at the foul line. The Griffins notched a 30-26 edge in rebounds and had 14 assists to only 11 turnovers. They limited the fourth-seeded Bulldogs to 37 percent shooting and scored 20 points from 18 UMW turnovers.

Krommenhoek would lead all scorers with 17 points in 22 minutes off the bench. She was 5-of-7 from beyond the arc and she added three assists, two steals and one blocked shot. Alli Blake added 16 points, six rebounds and five assists while Tia Pappas had 16 points and six rebounds.

Western was led by seven points apiece from Sammi Bignell, Stevie Humphries and Taylor Kanthack. Bignell also had eight rebounds, three assists and two steals.

Tuesday will mark the sixth-straight season that Westminster has been the host of the Frontier Conference Championship Game. The action will tip at 7 p.m. MST as the Griffins look for a second-straight tournament title.
