Griffins Sixth Title Within Reach Heading into Final Day

LAKE PLACID, N.Y. – The Westminster College women's snowboard team will enter the final day of the USCSA National Championships in a tie for first-place with Sierra Nevada College as they look for a sixth-straight national title. Westminster and Sierra Nevada have six points apiece after the first four competitions.

Saturday's final event is the Giant Slalom with the team placing the highest between Westminster and SNC taking home the 2014 championship. The action will begin around 8 a.m. MDT.

Westminster followed up national titles in the Quarter-Pipe and Rail Jam by placing second in both the Slopestyle and Boarder-X events. They finished behind Sierra Nevada in each discipline.

Wednesday's Slopestyle event saw all five Griffins place in the top 10. Jaime Vincent used a score of 40.0 in the final to finish third overall. Cassie Davis placed fourth in the event with a score of 39.3 with teammate Lexi Sinor in fifth with her 39.0. Kelly Kirby scored 35.3 to place eighth and Ali Appleton was 10th at 30.3.

After taking Thursday off, Westminster saw all five riders reach the quarterfinals of the Boarder-X on Friday. Davis, Sinor and Appleton all reached the semi-finals before falling into the consolation bracket. Davis finished fifth with Sinor and Appleton going sixth and eighth respectively. Vincent would finish in 10th and Kelly placed 11th.
