Rocky Defeats Griffins, 93-64, in Frontier Championship Game

Box Score BILLINGS, Mont. – The No. 19 Westminster College men's basketball team saw its quest for a Frontier Conference Tournament title come up short with a 93-64 loss at No. 11 Rocky Mountain (Mont.) on Monday night in the conference championship game.

Westminster – the tournament' No. 2 seed – falls to 19-11 overall on the season after an 11-5 conference slate. They are now 2-5 in Frontier Championship Games. Top-seeded Rocky Mountain improves to 23-7 on the year and won both the regular season and tournament championships. They earn the conference's automatic invite into the NAIA National Championships with a second-straight tournament title.

Rocky took control of the game midway through the first half when they put together a 16-0 run. Trailing 26-24 with 6:52 remaining in the half, Rocky would get three triples from Malachai Roberts and another by Rob Nyby to spark the run. They would eventually copse the half with a 20-2 spurt by holding the Griffins without a basket for the final 7:35 of the half.

The second half continued where the first left off as Rocky opened with 20 of the period's first 24 points. Westminster continued to struggle shooting the ball and Rocky used the rebounds to get out on the break for easy baskets.

The Griffins would shoot just 33.3 percent in the game and they were out-rebounded 46-31. Rocky would shoot 49.2 percent in the game with 30 points in the paint and 20 points from 13 Griffin turnovers. While Westminster shot 46.2 percent from beyond the arc on six treys, Rocky made 46.4 percent form deep with 13 made threes.

Jordan Pryor would lead the Griffins with a career-high 24 points in the loss. The sophomore went 8-of-16 form the floor and 4-of-9 from beyond the arc. Tallon Robertson would add 17 points and 12 rebounds for his ninth double-double of the season.

Roberts finished with 21 points before fouling out to lead RMC. He scored 19 of those during the first half when he made five of his seven attempts from beyond the arc. Jeremy Nicolas scored 14 points with Tyree Anderson and Sian Lane going for 12 and 11 respectively.

Westminster will now wait until Wednesday to see if they receive an at-large berth into the NAIA National Championships. With their No. 19 national ranking, the Griffins are on the bubble for the field of 32.
